My Thoughts on Australia’s New Age Rules
On March 9, new Age Restricted Material Codes came into effect in Australia under the Online Safety Act 2021, introduced by the eSafety Commissioner. These rules require adult websites to take stronger steps to prevent minors from accessing explicit content, including graphic nudity, simulated sexual acts and fetish material. As someone who has worked in the adult industry for years, I believe protecting minors online is important. However, these regulations may also affect how adult platforms operate and how creators share their work, so it’s important that sex workers’ voices are included in these conversations too.
